Birds prefer a bath that is not slick as they don't like to loose their footing. Cement are a good choice. If you already have a slick you can try adding small river rocks, although this will make it more difficult to clean.

The depth of the water should be no more than three inches at the center of them. If you already have a deep bath, again, you can try adding the river rocks to raise the depth.

A regular cleaning schedule will make cleaning your bird bath easier. Follow these steps to clean:

Tip your bird bath to the side to empty the water.

Rinse the bath our with a strong spray from the hose.

With a small amount of water and stiff scrubbing brush, loosen the grime from the bottom.

For the stubborn algae that will not come loose, pour a bleach solution of 3/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water and scrub again.

Rinse the bath thoroughly, and then rinse again.

Re-fill with fresh water.
