Let's Review Butterfly Facts & Garden Basics!
Use a butterfly garden plan with full sun plants for a butterfly garden and a wind barrier nearby (a row of shrubs or a fence). A full sun garden has at least 6 hours of sun each day.

Attract Butterflies To Your Garden
Plant a variety of butterfly nectar plants, bright reds, purples, yellows and oranges work well! Consider planting butterfly host plants to allow the adult butterflies to lay their eggs. What a wonder it would be to have the entire life cycle of the butterfly in your backyard!

Shrubs To Attract Butterflies
Plant each flower type in bunches so the butterflies can easily spot their flower of choice.
Avoid using pesticides on your butterfly plant choices.
Provide a "watering hole". The butterflies cannot drink from your birdbath, so provide them their own water experience. Butterflies prefer muddy puddles. If the thought of a puddle in your butterfly garden plan isn't appealing, you can provide a small saucer shaped container with sand that stays moistened by a spray of the hose. This can be a great "job" for young children to participate in the butterfly experience.

Trees That Attract Butterflies
Providing a ripened fruit dish will attract more varieties of butterflies.
Place a flat rock in the sun for the butterflies to warm up. For our child butterfly garden, we like to use the painted pet rock for this purpose!
