Enjoy A Bird Bee Butterfly Garden

If you are going to plant a butterfly garden, consider planting a bird bee butterfly garden by expanding your plant choices. Think outside the "butterfly" box on this butterfly garden design! We plant tall red cannas to attract the hummingbirds and golden sunray coreopsis to attract the Golden Finches, look for state birds. Bees are attracted to flowers with blue or yellow petals. These choices vary the height and color in our butterfly garden and work well for all the flutter-bys!

Butterfly Garden Plans - Easy Care Garden Designs

Let's explore the shape of an easy care garden design. One thing I constantly hear is the headache of mowing grass and trimming around complex garden shapes. If that is the case in your household, I would suggest an easy care garden design for the mower in the family.

One idea would be to take an entire "wall" in your yard and line it with your flower bed. For example, if you have a fence that is 100 feet wide, the mower has to mow and trim along the fence. Plan your garden to extend 4 feet from the fence and border it with your choice of material. The family mower will still have to trim the same and will not have complex designs to mow around. Your garden would be 100 feet wide by 4 feet deep.

Another option would be to place the garden anywhere in the yard and border the garden with bricks that are level with the ground. Yes, this will take some work and digging, however the lawn mower wheels will be able to run along the brick, thus eliminating the need for trimming! This idea could be the winner!

Butterfly Garden Design Sample - Layout for Butterfly Garden

One of my favorite ideas for designing a hummingbird and butterfly garden is more on the whimsical side and an idea you could plan with children, browse hummingbird food sugar water ratio. Build your butterfly garden in the shape of a butterfly. Start by outlining a butterfly shape, then line the shape with rocks, look for pet rock ideas. If your soil is in bad shape, work in some compost and peat moss. When your plants grow in you won't be able to see the shape as well, (unless your house looks down on your yard) but it's a fun secret for the kids to have - and they get so excited! I really just use the kids' excitement as an excuse, because I think I love this idea more than they do! However, the mower in the family won't be as thrilled.
